Happy Valentines Day all!
This is a our special edition newsletter because we wanted to
celebrate Valentines Day with you. Expect your regular edition
also this month.
Valentine is a masculine given name derived from the Roman
family name Valentinus, which was derived from the Latin word
valens, which means "strong and healthy." Valentine's Day was
most likely named for a third-century martyr.
As many of you know Valentown Hall was built by Levi Valentine.
Levi's grandparents, the Town(e)s were the first European
settlers on the site and arrived around 1809. The homestead
cabin was thought to be on the eastern side of the corner of
Valentown Rd & High Street. They later built our existing yellow
homestead. The Valentine name is a well known part of our history.
Valentines Day has become one of the most popular celebrations
in the world. This was a time one could express their love and
devotion either from afar or face to face, even in secret. In
more recent times it has become a tradition to express feelings
in artistic messages ranging from cards, flowers and gifts. And,
lets not forget lovely chocolate. The graphic art forms for
valentines have thousands of images and poetry all devoted to
love of some sort. Where would we be without the inspiration
from Valentines Day?
But its true meaning runs deeper than the cards or icons for the
day. It makes us focus on "our better nature" of love and
affection. And lets us think of the past Valentines Days we
remember, sweet or even bitter.
"I have tried this recipe and it tastes very similar to carrot
cake. I also iced the top with a cream cheese frosting. It was
very good! "
