"On the Rural Road Again"
A fundraiser to acquire technical equipment
for community outreach via mobile presentations.
New Horizons - New Highways
The Victor Historical Society is a private 501-C3 NFP Organization whose all volunteer staff now run the property as Historic Valentown Museum. We have always wanted to reach out to more people to tell our interesting Valentown stories.
Over the last few years due mostly to COVID restrictions and concerns, we have seen an opportunity to take our story to new audiences via the “Information Highway”. When we began using social media via our Facebook page for continued (and year long) interaction with our followers we quickly discovered this opened up the potential for a much greater outreach than we were accustomed as our online audiences began extending to individuals and communities from all over the United States and Europe. We also began offering one of our previously on site educational programs (about raising mason bees) via online Zoom meetings, and that also helped us reach new audiences and followers from garden groups in several states in all corners of the country.
A Video Gift
Thanks to a generous videography upstart, we have recently been gifted a video documentary of Valentown's history. Don Vallone of "Ham Jandy Productions" lent his time, drone, and expertise over many months working with the VHS staff to capture the history of Valentown. The entertaining video documentary explores Valentown from its exciting concept and construction by Levi Valentine as a center of commerce, entertainment, and education in the 1870’s, to its role as part of the National Grange into the first part of the twentieth century.
The documentary also chronicles the rise and fall of the potato boom in the area, and the decline, near demolition, and eventual rescue and restoration of the hall by Sheldon Fisher.
Finally, it explains how the board envisions the future use of the property as an important community resource for preserving the history of local agriculture, hometown business, and the entrepreneurial spirit of America.
The documentary is currently available for viewing to all, and they welcome all to enjoy it and share it.
Our Goal for Extended Community Outreach ("On the Rural Road Again")
A new goal of the museum is to acquire video presentation equipment in order to take our rural story, new official video documentary and our official "Valentown" song to other local area communities where we can present face to face again - now off site from Valentown Hall. The immediate goal is to present to underserved communities such as the elderly, infirm and disabled and other audiences who would normally not be able to navigate the actual museum building via an in-person tour.
Work has already begun in-house to develop a slide show presentation for mobile presentation, and is expected to be available in the fall of 2022. Our fundraising is to purchase the equipment that will enable us to present off site and our goal is to reach $1,500.00 for an HDMI/network enabled HD long range projector, a museum owned laptop & software, microphones, speakers and a large video screen. This equipment would give us everything we need to be able to present at Valentown and anywhere else, from outside venues to cafeterias and inside auditoriums.
(Ironically, past limitations to provide face-to-face presentations created the need to turn to technology in order to continue our correspondence and educational programs, and then technology in turn will become the means by which we can return to and extend our in person presentations!)
If you would like to help us achieve our goal, please consider donating to our "On the Rural Road Again" Community Outreach fundraiser:
As always, thank you for your interest and support - we hope to see you at Valentown!
