Sunday April 24th, 2022 @ 4pm. EST

WHERE : Virtual Meeting on Zoom

WHAT : A presentation on raising gentle mason bees for growers, back yards and gardens. The presentation includes lecture, slides, videos, nesting material displays, question and answer sessions, and a live demo of harvesting cocoons. The events will probably take at least an hour but not more than two.

This event requires registration, availability is limited to 15 Zoom connections per presentation and is open to adults and children (preferably age 12 and older). Registrations are $2.00 per Zoom connection, but donations of more are deeply appreciated.

Note: There are no restrictions on how many people can share a physical device for a connection. In other words, if you have 2 or more people who can be physically present with you when you connect, that is fine. Those are called "watch parties", and we would welcome that!

Resources for more information about mason bees and acquisition of nesting materials will also be provided during the presentation. Limited unharvested bee cocoons will also be available for purchase (local pickup only).

(The actual museum is closed for the season and will not be open those days.)

In the situation where the presentation registrations are full, please stay tuned as another presentation may be offered later. If you were unable to register for this event, and would be interested in attending another one, please email webmaster@historicvalentownmuseum.org to be added to a list of potential attendees for a later presentation.

Feedback from last year:

"Thanks for the great seminar on raising mason bees! We've found a good spot for a bee house and put one together, and my wife and I are looking forward to getting the bees out in the next couple of weeks."
~ Bob N. Victor, NY

"Lynne, I very much appreciate the time you took on March 31 to do the Mason bees presentation to Andrea and me. I was glad to be able to ask questions and really appreciated the demonstrations especially for making the bee houses, the materials to use and harvesting the cocoons. I donated today for the mason bee starter kit. I thought your presentation covered everything needed for attracting mason bees and your enthusiasm is contagious. Looking forward to getting my bees and I already have a bee pollinator garden that I started for attracting pollinators.

Again, thank you so much and the presentation is worth more than your requested donation. "

~Bethany G. of Canandaigua.

"Hi Lynne,

Glad to hear that you're doing more presentations on mason bees this year!

Your bees worked well in our yard last year, and we ended up with a fairly large number of cocoons. If we increase at the same rate this year, we'll have some to share in 2023. We used bamboo nest tubes last year, but this year we're also trying some cardboard tubes with paper liners. Below is a picture of our bee house with the "nursery" above it. [...picture displayed to the left]

We hope all is well with you!"
